If you and a friend are planning an ice fishing expedition, and you are looking for a lighter, less expensive ice fishing house that still has plenty of room for both people to stretch out, you should consider Otter’s Pro Magnum Lodge. This two person collapsible ice fishing shelter is not quite as sturdy and durable as some of the more expensive options available on the market, but it serves perfectly well if there is only moderate wind or snow. This light design significantly reduces the weight of the Pro Magnum Lodge, so what it lacks in strength it makes up for in mobility. At $430, this is a moderately priced ice fishing shelter for its size and makes quite the addition to your ice fishing gear.

The Pro Magnum Lodge is 98 inches long and 74 inches high, with a center height of 77 inches. When collapsed, it is only 74 inches long, 38 inches wide, and 20 inches tall. Minus the weight of the sled, the Pro Magnum Lodge is only 75 pounds, which is remarkably light for an ice fishing shelter of its size. In fact, some smaller two-person models can weigh up to 30 pounds more.

Given its lightweight design, the main attraction of the Pro Magnum Lodge is definitely mobility. It is uncommon for a two-person ice fishing shelter to be less than 100 pounds; so many people choose smaller models hoping to cut down on weight only to find that they don’t have enough room for all of their gear. This is not a problem with the Pro Magnum Lodge because it is not only very lightweight but also quite large.

The second reason people choose the Pro Magnum Lodge is comfort. Unlike smaller two-person models, which just have one bench for both people to sit on, the Pro Magnum Lodge has two swiveling chairs with backrests. A frequent complaint coming from people with the bench style of ice fishing shelter is that they get uncomfortable sitting for long periods of time with nowhere to lean their backs (the back of the shelter will not work as a backrest because it is only fabric and will pull the structure down if a person leans on it too heavily). The Pro Magnum Lodge is also more comfortable than some two-person ice fishing shelter models because it has legroom in front of the seats. Smaller models either don’t have much or don’t have any space behind the seats to store gear, so people have to leave their equipment in the open space in front of them. This restricts legroom and also reduces the amount of space available for drilling holes in the ice.

There have been some complaints about the quality of the water-resistant fabric that makes up the walls and roof of the Pro Magnum Lodge. Some people feel that there is too much ventilation through the fabric, and complain that they are too cold when they spend time in this shelter. Also, there are intentional air vents situated on the top of the Pro Magnum Lodge, which allows a lot of warm air to escape because hot air rises. Perhaps it would be a little better if the vents were on the sides.

If you usually do your ice fishing alone, and you are looking for a reliable, durable ice fishing shelter for a fairly low price, Otter’s Ice Cottage is a good option to consider. It is 77 inches by 54 inches at the base, and 63 inches tall in the center. Collapsed, it is only 54 inches long, 32 inches wide, and 18 inches tall. If you decide to buy only the shelter, the Ice Cottage is only $300, which is a pretty good price considering the quality of its design. However, if you decide to get a package deal with your Ice Cottage, you can pay $500 for the shelter, sled, and padded seat. The Ice Cottage weighs only 70 pounds, including everything you get in the package deal. This particular piece of ice fishing gear is a little heavier than other one-person ice fishing shelters, so if you are looking for a very lightweight, mobile shelter, the Ice Cottage may not be right for you.

People who like the Ice Cottage say it is because it is very comfortable. It is quite spacious for a one-person shelter, with enough room to keep all of your equipment inside and still stretch your legs. The Ice Cottage is sometimes preferable to the Fish Trap Scout because it is tall enough to stand up in. Having to crawl and kneel all the time can be extremely frustrating if you’re in a cramped shelter for hours on end. The Ice Cottage is also very comfortable because the cushioned seat can swivel around, and features forward-backward and side-to-side adjustability. There is some room behind the seat to store gear, which is uncommon in one-person ice fishing shelters. This is a nice feature because it frees up more floor space for drilling holes. The designers of the Ice Cottage did an exceptional job proportioning the air vents. It is difficult to balance airflow with heat retention in ice fishing shelters, because if there is not enough ventilation, the shelter gets too stuffy, and if there is too much, it gets too cold. There is no problem with ventilation in the Ice Cottage.

The Ice Cottage is a flip-over style of collapsible shelter, which means that to unpack the Ice Cottage, all you have to do is flip the tent part up from the sled it was packed on, and over to the ground on the other side of the package. This design of collapsible shelter is sometimes preferred to the suitcase variety because it is much easier and takes much less time to set up. Most flip-over style ice fishing shelters can be fully assembled in less than 30 seconds. Some people prefer the suitcase design because it is more lightweight and collapses more tightly, which means that it can be packed into a smaller volume. However, the suitcase style never comes with a built-in seat, so people with that variety of ice fishing shelter also have to bring something to sit on, so they may end up carrying just as much weight and have their gear take up just as much space.

If you and one friend are planning an ice fishing expedition, and you are the kind of ice fishermen that like to fish many spots on each lake, Otter’s Ice Cabin is a good option for you to consider. Combined with the weight of its sled, the Ice Cabin is only 65 pounds, making it one of the lightest two-man ice fishing shelters commercially available. If mobility is what you are looking for in your two-man ice fishing house, the Ice Cabin could very well be right for you.

With base dimensions of 66 inches by 84 inches, and a center height of 70.5 inches, the Ice Cabin has plenty of room for you and your fishing buddy to store all of your ice fishing gear and still stretch your legs. Despite the fact that most people would be content with amount of room inside the Ice Cabin, it is not quite so luxurious in this respect as some two-person ice fishing shelters on the market. If you and your ice fishing buddy have much more equipment than the average ice anglers, then maybe you should look for a bigger shelter, but the Ice Cabin is definitely enough for most people.

The Ice Cabin is a flip-over style collapsible ice fishing shelter, as opposed to the suitcase design. While the flip-over design is usually heavier than suitcase models, the Ice Cabin is actually lighter than some. However, like all flip-over models, the Ice Cabin does not collapse into as small of a space as a suitcase ice fishing shelter could. When collapsed, it is 65 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 20 inches tall. So, while the Ice Cabin is much easier to move around than other flip-over styled ice-fishing shelters, it is still more awkward to handle when collapsed. Flip-over shelters make up for their awkward collapsed dimensions with how easy they are to set up. As with any kind of flip-over ice fishing shelter, the Ice Cabin can be erected in less than thirty seconds. Also, the flip-over design features compartments for your gear in its collapsed form, whereas the suitcase design forces you to leave your gear on top of the shelter when it is collapsed. People with the suitcase design have to be careful to strap their gear together carefully, or it is likely to get lost. You don’t have to worry about this precaution if you have the Ice Cabin.

People who like the Ice Cabin say it is very comfortable because it features adjustable swivel chairs with backrests. Many two-person ice fishing shelters have only a bench for their inhabitants to sit on. Some people who bought the bench models complained of discomfort after a few hours with nowhere to rest their backs. Other people who bought the Ice Cabin said it was uncomfortable because they were cold a lot of the time. To make the design more lightweight, the fabric covering the shelter had to be made thinner than that of other models. If you get cold more easily than most, you might do better to buy a heavier, thicker shelter than the Ice Cabin.

When collapsed, it is 65 inches long, 38 inches wide, and 24 inches tall. It weighs 107 pounds, but is relatively easy to move around because it was built on a taller, sturdier sled.

For only two people, the Fish Trap Yukon is quite large. It is much bigger and more luxurious than the other Fish Trap models made for two people, but is also slightly more expensive. It features two swiveling seats instead of one long bench, which allows both people to properly stretch their legs and fish in comfort. The seats are removable, so if you are ice fishing alone and don’t already have enough room for all your gear, you have the option of freeing up a little more space. Another distinctive feature of the Fish Trap Yukon is the Trap-Link shelter connection system, which allows you to attach your Fish Trap Yukon to other Fish Trap ice shelters, as well as the Clam 5600’s. This is a nice feature because bigger groups of ice fishermen can socialize while they wait for the fish to bite.

Some people complain that the Fish Trap Yukon is not well ventilated enough. It is difficult to find a balance between ventilation and warm air retention in ice fishing shelters. If the shelter is not ventilated at all, it gets too stuffy, but if there is too much air exchange between inside and outside, it gets too cold. The Fish Trap Yukon does feature air vents, but some people say that it could have more.

The Fish Trap Yukon is a flip-over style of collapsible ice fishing shelter, as opposed to the kind that collapses into a suitcase. Some people prefer the flip-over design because it is much faster and easier to set up than the suitcase design, but other people are deterred by the flip-over style because it is usually heavier and more expensive. Also, flip-over shelters are harder to carry around because they do not collapse as tightly as a shelter that fits into a suitcase.

The Fish Trap Yukon is designed for use in the roughest of ice fishing conditions, but it allows for more comfort than the average two-person shelter. It has a very sturdy aluminum frame and is built on a strong, tall sled. It is definitely intended only for very serious ice fishermen, but if an armature wants to pay a little more to have an extra solid shelter, he will certainly not be disappointed.

If you and one friend are planning an ice fishing expedition, one option for a collapsible ice fishing shelter is Clam’s Fish Trap X2. It goes for about seven hundred dollars, which is a little pricier than most Clam ice fishing shelters, but the Fish Trap X2 features more space and is of better quality than many of the other options on the market. This two-person shelter is 90 by 72 inches at the base, and 75 inches tall in the center, providing plenty of room to sit comfortably and enough room for most people to stand up straight. Its packed dimensions are 75 inches long, 42 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. At 145 pounds, the Fish Trap X2 is a little awkward to move on to or off of the sled or truck, but given that it was designed for two people, it would be safe to assume that whoever is setting the shelter up has some help. The difficulty in setting up the Fish Trap X2 is entirely a result of its weight, because once it is where you need it to be, the setup is simple and straightforward.

The Fish Trap X2 is a flip-over style portable shelter, as opposed to the suitcase variety. While the flip-over style is generally more expensive than its counterpart, it usually takes more time to set up the suitcase variety of portable shelter. Also, the flip-over style always features a built-in bench, whereas people who bring a suitcase style shelter also have to bring something to sit on. Some people prefer the suitcase variety because it is usually lighter, and its packed dimensions are less awkward, but those people also have to bring more ice fishing gear, such as a seat, which increases both the weight and the volume of their gear. So in terms of how easy the shelter is to set up, the flip-over style is better in that it has a built in bench and the design makes setup quick and simple, but worse in that it is much heavier and takes up more space when it is collapsed.

Another difference between the suitcase and flip-over varieties of ice shelters that it is important to consider when you are thinking about purchasing the Fish Trap X2 is that the flip-over models have compartments for your gear, whereas the gear is just supposed to sit on top of the suitcase models. This means that some gear can slide off of the suitcase variety of shelter when you’re moving around, which causes a lot of gear to get lost. With the flip-over variety of ice shelter, losing gear is not nearly as big of a concern. Also, since the flip-over style is much heavier, the Fish Trap X2 will only have to be anchored to the ice if there is very strong wind. Suitcase ice shelters must always be anchored to bare ice. Finally, the insulation around the bottom of the shelter in flip-over shelters is usually not as good as that of the suitcase shelters, which causes some people to complain of colder feet in the flip-over style.

Invented by Dave Genz, the most widely respected authority on ice fishing, Clam’s Fish Trap Scout model of collapsible ice fishing house is one of the best choices for someone looking for mobility. One person can easily set up the Fish Trap Scout in five minutes. You simply pull off the strap holding the steel frame to the sled, flip the tent part over, and start fishing. If you are the kind of ice fisherman that is never satisfied with fishing just one spot in a day, and find yourself constantly searching for the best spot on the lake, you should seriously consider buying the Fish Trap Scout. It goes for $250, which is a little expensive for an ice shelter of its size, but it is of relatively high quality, so most people would consider it a fair price when compared to a lot of other things in their ice fishing gear.

The Fish Trap Scout is 80 inches long and 36 inches wide, with a center height of 58 inches. It collapses into a sled, which is 48 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 20 inches tall. Weighing in at 47 pounds, the Fish Trap Scout is one of the lightest collapsible ice fishing shelters on the market. Some bigger men prefer the Fish Trap Pro to the scout because it has a little more room.

The Fish Trap Scout has a wider skirt on the bottom of the tent than most Fish Trap ice fishing shelters, which makes it hold warmth in slightly better. This is a good feature because some people complain of cold feet when they use Fish Trap ice fishing shelters. In terms of retaining heat, the Fish Trap Scout’s small size can serve as a plus. With less room, the airspace inside the shelter warms faster than in bigger Fish Trap models.

While the small size of the Fish Trap Scout is good for keeping warm, it also prevents you from relaxing in the company of your fellow ice fishermen. If you can’t stand to sit alone for long periods of time, then this type of ice fishing shelter is not for you. However, as Dave Genz says, “you’re not fishing alone, you’re fishing independently,” and just because you are not sitting in the same shelter as your friends does not mean you are not working as a team. Groups of people who each have their own Fish Trap Scouts can fish many spots on a lake simultaneously. This strategic ice fishing method, commonly referred to as the “Trap Attack,” has proven very successful at catching a wider variety of fish species in one day.

If you are interested in an ice fishing shelter that is more mobile than the rest, the Fish Trap Scout is what you are looking for. It is much smaller and lighter than other models, and it is remarkably easy to put together and disassemble. However, if you are a more social ice fisherman, and like to spend your ice fishing expedition in the company of your friends, than a bigger, more sturdy shelter will probably be better for you.

If you are looking for flexibility in your ice fishing house, Clam’s Fish Trap Guide model is a good option to consider. It has enough room to comfortably fit two fishermen, but is also relatively lightweight and mobile when collapsed, so if you plan an ice fishing expedition on your own, you can still bring the Fish Trap Guide and use the extra space for your ice fishing gear. For $320, it is moderately priced for its size.

The Fish Trap Guide is 83 inches by 61 inches at the base, and 61 inches tall in the center. It collapses down to 61 inches long, 36 inches wide, and 21 inches tall. At only 82 pounds, the Fish Trap Guide is very light for its size.

Again, the main advantage of having a Fish Trap Guide is its flexibility, which is probably why it is the best selling collapsible ice fishing shelter in history. The two seats are independently removable, so if you are mounting an ice fishing expedition on your own you can remove one seat so you have more room for fishing equipment. The biggest fishermen are more comfortable in the Fish Trap Guide than smaller models such as the Fish Trap Scout. The innovative bench system also allows for the option of one adult and two children.

The Fish Trap Guide follows the flip-over style of packing, as opposed to the suitcase varieties. Shelters made in this style are usually harder to move from place to place, because they are usually heavier and collapse into large, awkward dimensions, but faster and easier to assemble once they are at the site. Also, flip-over styled ice fishing shelters come with a bench, so you will not have to pack anything to sit on if you bring the Fish Trap Guide, whereas with the suitcase design you would always have to carry a seat along with your shelter. Another characteristic of the flip-over style of collapsible ice fishing shelter is that shelters made in that style have compartments for your gear even when they are collapsed, which means that you don’t have to leave all your gear on top of your shelter when you are moving around. People with the suitcase style of ice fishing shelter are often frustrated when some of their equipment slides off the top of their collapsed shelter and gets lost. Because the flip-over design is more sturdy, and attached to the bench people sit on when they are fishing in it, shelters made in this style rarely have to be anchored to bare ice, whereas shelters made in the suitcase style must always be anchored or they are likely to be blown away.

A good thing to keep in mind is that the plastic runners that come on the bottom of the packed Fish Trap Guide are low quality and will quickly wear out. If you buy the Fish Trap Guide, it is highly advisable to either buy some runners to install over the ones that come on the Fish Trap Guide or make some yourself.
